Many things in this life can lead to our downfall. Habits ensure that we get stuck in a rut. Fear prevents us from moving in a new direction. Doubt continually gnaws away at our faithand trust, both in God and ourselves. Failures of the past haunt us. Many things in the world around us, as well as within us, threaten to destroy us.
But it doesn't have to be like this. The man at the pool of Bethesda was a failure for thirty-eight years. He was ruled by sickness and self pity. Then a word from Jesus transformed him from failure to faith, from sickness to health, from self-pity to radiant self-confidence.
Two things happened to lift this man out of his depressing condition. The one was a command from Jesus, and other was his own immediate move away from failure. At Jesus' word, and apparently also His gaze, the man believed that he could be healed-and it happened.
Jesus does not want you to wallow in the mud of self-pity for one day longer. No matter how long you battled with your doubt, defeat or failures, you don't need to stay trapped there. You can stand up today and leave your negative past behind you. Your Savior will give you strength. He will inspire you with hope and fill you up with trust; He will accompany you on the path with new energy and a new beginning. All that is required of you is immediate action-NOW!
